Continuous Shipment | 800 kV Partial-Discharge-Free Voltage Divider Supports UHV Safety Testing

Despite the arrival of winter, shipments continue without pause. Recently, an 800 kV partial-discharge-free voltage divider manufactured by Wuhan JinDian Technology has completed all required testing and been dispatched to Shanghai Electric Group, where it will be used in a core test project in the ultra-high-voltage sector. As a globally leading provider of industrial-grade green and intelligent system solutions, Shanghai Electric has long supported national strategies, focusing on the two core domains of energy and industry. In the energy segment, the company has developed complementary multi-energy solutions integrating wind, solar, storage, and hydrogen, as well as integrated “source–grid–load–storage” solutions. In the industrial sector, leveraging its robust capabilities in extreme manufacturing, Shanghai Electric is deeply engaged across five major industrial value chains: shipbuilding, transportation, aviation, power grids, and chemicals. With a history spanning more than 120 years, Shanghai Electric has continuously tackled numerous “bottleneck” technologies and has so far won a total of 94 science and technology awards, making it a key driver of independent innovation in China’s high-end equipment sector.

The core function of the 800-kV partial-discharge-free voltage divider produced this time is to enable precise high-voltage measurement and suppress its own partial discharge during 800-kV ultra-high-voltage partial-discharge testing, thereby ensuring the purity of the test specimen’s partial-discharge signals and supporting insulation assessment and defect diagnosis. Its key functions include high-voltage measurement: converting the 800-kV high voltage into a low-voltage signal according to a fixed ratio for instrument reading and monitoring, while guaranteeing measurement accuracy and stability to provide precise voltage data for the test; partial-discharge suppression: with an extremely low level of intrinsic partial discharge, it avoids interference with the test specimen’s partial-discharge signals and can also serve as a coupling capacitor, making it suitable for partial-discharge testing and signal acquisition in the 30–300-Hz frequency range; and insulation-performance evaluation: when used in conjunction with a partial-discharge-free power supply and a partial-discharge detector, it facilitates induced withstand and partial-discharge tests on ultra-high-voltage equipment such as transformers, GIS, and instrument transformers, enabling assessment of insulation condition and early warning of defects. This system is compatible with both ultra-high-voltage laboratories and field tests, meeting the requirements for type tests, factory acceptance tests, and on-site handover tests of equipment rated at 800 kV.

Currently, the equipment has successfully completed factory testing and packaging and has been shipped to Shanghai Electric Group. This delivery not only underscores Wuhan JinDian Technology’s technological prowess in the field of ultra-high-voltage testing equipment but will also provide critical support for Shanghai Electric in the R&D, testing, and quality control of UHV equipment. The collaboration between the two parties will jointly advance China’s level of UHV equipment testing technology, thereby contributing to the safe and reliable operation of the nation’s energy infrastructure.
